Lady Yellow Jackets stumble at Sparta

The Chester High School Lady Yellow Jackets ventured to Sparta on November 23 to take on the much-improved Lady Bulldogs.

In spite of a great Lady Jacket effort and 64 percent shooting from the free-throw line, Chester fell to Sparta, 42-35.

Chester got off to a slow start in the first half with poor shooting and a lack of ability to stop Sparta's offensive production. As a team, the Lady Yellow Jackets shot only 2-for-19 for a shooting percentage of just 10 percent.

CHS trailed 14-6 after one quarter of play and 24-12 at halftime. The third quarter was still a hard-fought, close battle, but Sparta still had a 30-19 lead to start the fourth quarter.

For the game, Kaitlyn Dillow led the Lady Yellow Jackets with 12 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and one turnover.

Logan Colvis and Alexis McMath each scored eight points. Colvis added six rebounds, one assist, one steal and one turnover. McMath recorded five boards and two steals.

Rounding out the scoring were Haley Middendorf and Emily Tudor. Middendorf added four points, five points, one assist, nine steals and three turnovers.

Tudor made one of two free throws as her only scoring, along with two rebounds and a pair of turnovers.

As a team, the Lady Yellow Jackets shot only 20 percent from the field (10-for-49), but they shot 64 percent (14-for-22) from the free throw line.

With the loss, the Lady Jackets fell to an overall record of 2-2 for the early season.
