CGS Lady Jr. Jackets beat Murphy and Pinckneyville

CHESTER - The Chester Grade School have continued to win en route to an early-season record of 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The Lady Yellow Jackets hosted their home opener on November 16 and christened the new state-of-the-art CGS Gym with a 35-32 victory over Murphysboro.

Chester led 9-8 in the first quarter and 17-12 at the half. The Lady Jr. Jackets outscored Murphysboro, 11-9, in the third quarter to lead 28-21 going into the fourth quarter.

For the win, Destiny Williams led the team with 12 points followed by Hayven Donnell (9), Mariah Dunn (6), Taylor Hennrich (4), and Lydia Heck (4).

The next night, CGS hosted Pinckneyville in another conference battle. The Lady Yellow Jackets scored 10 points in the first quarter and added another 16 points in the second to lead 26-16 at halftime.

After the break, Chester came out strong again and outscored Pinckneyville 19-8 to take a 45-24 advantage in winning the contest, 59-30.

Williams once again led the scoring for both teams with 24 points. Hayven Donnell added 16 points, followed by Mariah Dunn (13), Katie Shinabarger (4) and Lydia Heck (2).

The homestand continued Monday as Chester hosted Nashville and again tonight when Trico comes to town.

CGS also hosts Sparta on November 30 and New Athens on December 2.
