Price finishes as top seller

The Girl Scouts are known for their cookies, but did you know they also sell nuts, candy, and magazines?

Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois finished their annual Nut, Candy & Magazine Program with tremendous success as 4,164 girls sold nearly $644,000 in total. Kylie Price,7, from Harrisburg, was the Top Seller for the Shawnee area.

Price sold $1,000 worth of the items. As a result, she got to take home a slew of prizes including, a stuffed Giraffe, head phones, a purse, nail art and a backpack full of desk supplies for use at school.

When asked what her favorite part was, Kylie said, "Getting to eat some of the candy."

By participating in the NCM program Kylie benefits from "Learning by earning" and developed five valuable life skills: goal-setting, decision-making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Proceeds from the program help the Girl Scouts develop leadership programs for girls, recruit and train adult volunteers, improve and maintain camp properties and provide financial assistance so Girls Scouting is available to all girls.

"We are extremely happy with the wonderful job our girls did during this year's Nut, Candy and Magazine Program," said Kelly Jansen, GSSI Director of Product Program. "The parents and volunteers are to be commended; their commitment and support are vital to the success of the program."

Kylie has been in the Girls Scouts for three years and has participated in the program all three. There were options to purchase items to be sent overseas to military troops.

Bryan and Jennifer Price, Kylie's parents, said they are so thankful to everyone who helped make Kylie a local success.
