BASKETBALL: PJHS girls win Steeleville Tournament
The Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) girls went 3-0 to win the Steeleville Fall Classic Tournament last week, winning all three games by at least 15 points.
Their run to the championship began on Thursday night with a 46-25 victory over Red Bud, the 125th career win for Junior Lady Panthers head coach Kasey Bauza. Haleigh Kling led the way with 14 points, Kally Mayo and Lily Britt both had 9, and Brianne Lacy, Deja Jenkel, Payton Morgan and Ryley Ehler each finished with 2.
On Friday, PJHS knocked off Valmeyer 32-16 behind a 12-point effort from Britt. Kling finished with 6 points, Lacy, Mayo and Jenkel all had 4 apiece.
The Lady Panthers finished off the tournament by defeated host Steeleville 33-18 on Saturday as Britt again led the team in scoring with 13 points. Jenkel had 8 points, Kling 5, Mayo 3 and Lacy and Carsyn Cowley both had 2.
