SIC forensics win big in university tourney
Southeastern Illinois College's Forensic Falcons finished first and second at two weekend tournaments against top universities
At the City of Cedars tournament the Forensic Falcons won the team championship on Nov. 14 at McKendree University in Lebanon. They received second place to Illinois State University at the Forensics Roots tournament on Nov. 15. Many brought home high marks in their categories.
"We knew this weekend's tournaments would be a challenge because our students were competing against university juniors and senior," Coach Jenny Billman said. "They definitely rose to the occasion."
While the Forensic Falcons are no stranger to winning tournaments, this weekend's competitions were significant as Southeastern was one of the only community colleges in attendance. Southeastern placed above teams from Bradley University, Ball State University, Eastern Illinois University, Truman State University, Webster University, and others. In total, 15 schools competed at the tournaments.
Several members of the Forensic Falcons team won tournament champion awards in their perspective category including:
Cassidy Maynard of Harrisburg who received tournament champion in communication analysis at the Forensics Roots tournament.
Haley Rushing of Marion receiving tournament champion in communication analysis at the City of Cedars tournament.
Britta Suits of Norris City who received tournament champion in extemporaneous speaking at the City of Cedars tournament.
Cassandra Watkins of Harrisburg who received tournament champion in impromptu speaking at the City of Cedars.
