BASKETBALL: Lady Warriors prevail at Pinckneyville

An 10-0 run to close out the third quarter helped carry Du Quoin Middle School to a 44-26 victory over the Junior Lady Panthers at Pinckneyville on Monday night with Bailey Harsy's 12 points leading the way for the Lady Warriors. Elizabeth Bird and Braylee Watson each added 9 points for DMS.

Du Quoin threatened to pull away early in the second quarter, starting the period with a 7-0 run that featured a conventional three-point play by Watson.

Pinckneyville stuck around and trailed by eight at the half before Deja Jenkel's layup off of an inbounds pass cut the lead to six early in the third at 24-18.

But Watson stuck back a rebound to spark the Lady Warriors' 10-0 run that followed. The spurt also included buckets from Bird and Delaynie Dearmond.

Bird put in a three-pointer less than a minute into the fourth quarter for the dagger.

Dearmond and Chloe Prather each finished with 4 points for DMS, Chloe Hess, Emily Tilley and Ella Hirsch each had 2.

For PJHS, Haleigh Kling led the way with 9 points, Jenkel had 5, and Brianne Lacy, Kally Mayo, Payton Morgan, Carsyn Cowley, Cheyenne Lynch and Chloe McKee all had 2 points.

The Lady Warriors next take the floor on Thursday at home against Carbondale. The Junior Lady Panthers are off until Monday's road game at Trico.
