BASKETBALL: PJHS in championship at Marissa Tournament

Pinckneyville Junior High School (District #50) will play for the championship at the Marissa Tournament this Friday night at 7 p.m. after defeating Freeburg 48-21 on Thursday.

The Junior Panthers put Freeburg away in a hurry with a 22-2 first quarter. Dawson Yates had three three-pointers in the period and Devin Kitchen had 6 of his game-high 16 points. Yates finished with 10.

Derek Rohlfing added 8 points for PJHS, Hunter Riggins 5, Ty Fleming 4, Noah Carter and Colton Priebe 2 and Dalton Kitchen 1.

On Monday, the Junior Panthers trounced New Athens 49-22, again starting fast with a 28-6 first quarter. Yates had 11 of his team-high 13 points in that opening period.

Devin Kitchen added 12 points, Rohlfing 7, Riggins 5, Dalton Kitchen 4, Trent Morgenstern 3, Carter and Fleming 2, and Dre Scott 1.

Pinckneyville took care of Millstadt on Tuesday, winning 50-26. Rohlfing led the Jr. Panthers with 12 points. Yates and Devin Kitchen both added 9 points, Riggins 6, Carter 5, Dalton Kitchen 4, Scott 3 and Morgenstern 2.
