Du Quoin zoning board to discuss church permit

The City of Du Quoin's Zoning Board will meet on Thursday, November 19 at 6 p.m. at city hall to consider several matters before it.

The board will meet to consider a special use permit from Dennis and Dana Jackson who are doing business as the Vision Ministries and hope to establish a church at 15 and 17 South Mulberry Street, a building which previously housed New Wave Cablevision offices in what's known as the C-V Primary Business District."

The church will be located next to the Wet Spot Lounge on South Mulberry Street.

The board will also consider a request from Rod Youngman to rezone parcels located at 423 and 430 West Poplar Street in Du Quoin from "R-F One Family Residence" to "R-2 Two Family Residence."

The zoning commission will also hear a request from Tracy Fenton to rezone approximately 11 acres on the north side of Green's Market Road and immediately east of the Canadian National Railroad from "R-2" two family residential to "G-V" general industrial.

Lastly, the announced plan for a possible soup kitchen project in downtown Du Quoin is prompting the zoning commission to modify the language of certain ordinances in the City of Du Quoin. The public notice and public hearing will add the following text to Section 40-4-3 of the Du Quoin Zoning Code under permitted uses in the "C-2" Highway Business District: "Sales and services including food banks, soup kitchens and similar related public charitable organizations serving food to the public."

The meeting will take place in the city council chambers of the Du Quoin City Hall located at 302 East Poplar Street.
