Marching Yellow Jackets close out regular season with Senior Day performance

<span>After a very busy first quarter and several performances, the Chester High School Marching Yellow Jackets closed the regular season portion of their duties last Saturday.</span>

<span>Both entities will return to W.O. Smith Field if Chester hosts a home playoff game in the coming weeks, but CHS Band and Choral Director Steve Colonel and Dance Team Co-Advisors Barb Misuraca and Adrianne Brockmeyer recognized their senior band members and dancers during a special halftime ceremony.</span>

<span>Led by senior Drum Majors Allaynah Price and Brooke Wahl, the Marching Yellow Jackets began their with the playing of the Chester High School "Loyalty-School Song" and "Go You Yellowjackets" fight song.</span>

<span>a special presentation was announced recognizing the winners of the "Great Character Awards," sponsored by the Chester High School football team and the Chester Grade School Beta Club.</span>

<span>The three "Great Character Award" winners from the Chester Grade School were Derrius Shoemate, Landon Carter and Alison Venus. Lillie Reiman was the winner from St. Mary's School and Noah Homan was the St. John Lutheran School winner.</span>

<span>All of the winners received free admission into the game, and they got to sit in reserved seating. They also received vouchers for a free drink and popcorn. </span>

<span>A moment of silence was held for Linda Hoffman, who passed away Oct. 11. Hoffman was a long-standing, loyal Yellow Jacket supporter and mother and grandmother to several Yellow Jacket players over the years. </span>

<span>Senior band and dance team members were recognized. Each member received special gifts sponsored by the Chester High School Music Patrons.</span>

<span>In all, there were 18 senior band members honored and recognized, plus three senior dance team members.</span>

<span>Senior Band Members were Amber Carnahan (daughter of Scott Carnahan), Malorie Cashmer (daughter of Dave Cashmer and Linda Sward), Courtney Dobbs (daughter of Donna Dobbs) and Wesley Fields (son of Kim Herschbach).</span>

<span>With Kim Herschbach was Wesley's older brother, Zach Fields.</span>

<span>Other senior band members were Ethan Gendron (son of David and Brandy Gendron), Elizabeth Gruenewald (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gruenewald), Jason Heberlie (son of Bob and Mary Ann Heberlie), Nick Heldebrandt (son of Mr. and Mrs. Heldebrandt), Ryan Kattenbraker (son of Ralph and Pamela Kattenbraker), Olivia Moore (daughter of Steve and Jeannette Cowan), Melissa Myers (daughter of Stan and Laura Myers) and Alex Phillips (daughter of Kenneth and Christie Phillips).</span>

<span>Finally, more senior band members included Alaynah Price (daughter of Mishelle Braun) Stephanie Roth (daughter of John and Jeanne Roth), Austin Runge (son of Larry Runge and Crystal Duensing), Joey Schneier (son of Scott and Sherri Schneier), Brooke Wahl (daughter of Alma Wahl) and Alex Westbrook (daughter of Christina Lohman).</span>

<span>There were three CHS Dance Team members recognized and honored, including Anna Cole (daughter of Tammy Cole and Brian and Sharon Cole), Alyssa Hoops (daughter of Royce and Shelly Hoops) and Emily Eggemeyer (daughter of Nelson Eggemeyer and Marlene Eggemeyer).</span>

<span>"We want to thank these seniors for their four years of service to the CHS Music Department," Colonel said. "In 2015, the Music Department at CHS finished sixth in the entire State of Illinois in Class C Music Sweepstakes.</span>

<span>"The Music Department has set a goal of finishing no less than in the top three in the state this year in the 2016 Music Sweepstakes. With the leadership and help of the seniors and the rest of the musicians it is our goal to improve by at least three positions this year."</span>

<span>Following the recognition of seniors, the Marching Yellow Jackets performed their halftime field show, "Super Halftime," featuring Beyonce's "Crazy in Love;" The Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling" and Bruno Mars' "Uptown funk."</span>

The band closed out their performance with Katy Perry's "Dark Horse."
