CROSS COUNTRY: St. Bruno wins Class S state championship

Pinckneyville's St. Bruno Catholic School claimed a Class S girls state championship on Saturday at the SIJHSAA Cross Country Finals, placing 4 runners inside the top 10 and all 7 of their competitors in the top 23.

The Lady Falcons were paced by individual state champ Gabrielle Alongi, who finished 13 seconds ahead of the field at a time of 11:52. St. Bruno teammates Laney Beltz (3rd), Dakota Krone (5th) and Grace Alongi (8th) joined her in the top 10. Kenzie Rushing finished 11th overall, Olivia Phillips was 13th, and Lily Tanner 23rd in the field of 198 runners.

St. Bruno's team score of 26 was 62 places better than second-place St. Joseph (Olney)'s 88. Nashville was third at 107.
