Prep Football: Shake Up At The Top
Parity is a common thing at the national and collegiate level. It appears to be popular at the prep level as well.
A major shakeup occurred at the top of the Daily Register-Southern Illinois Super 10 Prep Football Poll after two of the top teams this season lost last Friday.
Murphysboro, the dominant No. 1 team this year in the Super 10, fell 31-22 on the road at Harrisburg in SIRR Ohio Division action.
As a result, the Bulldogs, who haven't lost since Week 1 at Mt. Carmel claimed the number one spot in this week's ranking, moving up five spots, while Centralia held off Marion for a 28-20 South Seven Conference win and moved up two spots to take the No. 2 spot.
Harrisburg will be on the road for the final two contests of the season, as the Bulldogs travel to Herrin this Friday, where a win will give Al Way and company the outright title in the Ohio.
Centralia travels down Interstate 57 to take on rival Mt. Vernon.
Murphysboro will look to get back on the winning side of the column, taking on a Benton ball club that is on a two-game losing streak, while Herrin (No. 4) plays host to Harrisburg.
Marion dropped three spots to No. 5 and will travel to Carbondale, who under first year Brian Lee, is still searching for its first win of the year.
Chester, who is No. 6 in this week's poll, is one of four teams in southern Illinois still perfect in conference play and play host to Virden North Mac on Saturday, while the second of four teams still perfect in league play, Eldorado (No. 7) looks to keep its streak in tact traveling to Johnston City, where under head coach Brandon Hampton the Eagles are just 1-for-8 against the Indians.
Nashville (No. 9) will travel to Du Quoin, while Sparta (No. 10) will play host to Anna-Jonesboro.
