CHS girls golf ends season at A-J Regional
<span>A much-improved Lady Yellow Jackets golf team competed in the Class A Anna-Jonesboro Regional on Wednesday and in spite of a great effort, no Chester athletes qualified for sectional competition.</span>
<span>Massac County won the match with a low score of just 350 strokes, while Herrin (367); Carterville (368), Anna-Jonesboro (378) and Murphysboro (408) rounded out the top five.</span>
<span>"The Lady Jackets never laid down," said CHS assistant coach Paul Zemlyn. "They came to fight and this time they gave it their all.</span>
<span>"I will say that the girls were there every day for practice, worked hard and never quit."</span>
<span>The top three teams and 10 individuals advanced to the Carterville Sectional on Monday.the top 10 individuals advancing were Alexia Burtis of Harrisburg (87); Grace Coleman of Trico (91); Tanner Stadelbacher of Anna-Jonesboro (92); Meghan Smith of Anna-Jonesboro (92); Cassandra Jones of Goreville (94); Sydney Ray of Anna-Jonesboro (96); Hannah Gahagan of Murphysboro (96); Connar Hadley of Anna-Jonesboro (98); Skylar Street of Harrisburg (99) and Hailley Abernathy of Anna-Jonesboro (100).</span>
<span>The Lady Yellow Jackets were led by juniors Emily Tudor and Jackie Hopkins, who both shot 113. Hanna Bert, a rookie sophomore golfer for the Lady Yellow Jackets, carded a 131 and senior Sarah Hecht finished with a 142.</span>
<span>"I'm so proud of our girls," Zemlyn said. "We coaches found that the girls got better as the season progressed and I really want to wish them good luck down the road.</span>
<span>"We will really miss our three senior girls; Sarah Hecht, Jaclyn Colvis and Anna Cole."</span>
