Prep Golf: Fowler, Bittle advance to Sectionals

It was a case of taking the good with the bad Tuesday at the IHSA Salem Golf Regional.

The good, two Harrisburg seniors, Ben Fowler and Patrick Bittle advanced as individuals and will move on to next Tuesday's sectional at Franklin Country Country Club in West Frankfort.

The Bad: Harrisburg - as a team - did not qualify as the Bulldogs finished sixth in the 10-team tournament.

Centralia won the event with a 308, followed by Salem with a 322. Massac County and Mt. Carmel were third and fourth respectively as the Patriots fired a 323 and Mt. Carmel finished with a 324.

Benton took fifth with a 325, followed by Harrisburg with a 330.

Marion (331), West Frankfort (332), Herrin (358) and Mt. Vernon (359) rounded out the field.

Fowler was fifth overall as he shot a 76, while Bittle fired an 82 and grabbed the last spot, beating Mt. Carmel's Blake Stipp in a playoff on the first hole.

Garrett Jenkins carded an 84 for Harrisburg, while Bryce Beal's 88 rounded out the four-person scoring for Harrisburg.

Camden Schiff shot a 97 and Jacob Mills finished with a 99 as the two played as individuals.
