CHS JV: Murphysboro downs Chester, 46-6

<span>MURPHYSBORO -- Chester's Jack Hathaway ran for 129 yards and a touchdown, but Murphysboro scored two touchdowns in a span of 1:07 to take control of a 46-6 victory over the Yellow Jackets on Monday.</span>

<span>Murphysboro got the game's first touchdown on a 12-yard run from DeVondre Gaston with 7:19 left in the first quarter, and got its second a short time later when Gaston picked up a Chester fumble and returned it 16 yards for the score.</span>

<span>Murphysboro (6-0, 3-0 SIRR Ohio) scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 34-0 lead at halftime. Two of those touchdowns were by Gaston, who had four total for the game.</span>

<span>Chester's lone touchdown came with 4:20 left in the third quarter, when Hathaway scored from 60 yards out. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.</span>

<span>Pierson Lyons contributed 35 yards on eight carries for Chester (3-3, 3-2 BDC), which was without the services of Drake Bollman due to the flu.</span>

<span>Brady Kelkhoff (4-22), Eathan Thompson (2-5), Calvin Clendenin (3-4), Nick Meyer (1-3) and Brandon Wright (1-8) all ran the ball for the Yellow Jackets. Meyer and Clendenin combined to go 0-for-3 passing.</span>

<span>Thompson led Chester defensively with 12 tackles, including eight solo. Hathaway had seven, while Daltyn Korando had five.</span>

<span>Other tacklers for Chester were Tristin Hobeck (3), Wright (3), Clendenin (1), Meyer (4), Hunter Munie (1), Kelkhoff (2), Adam Shipley (2), Chase Colvis (3), Clayton Richelman (4) and Lyons (1).</span>

<span>Next up for Chester is a home contest against Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton on Monday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.</span>
