Few hours only to get rid of old electronics

A small window is open for disposing of <span class="il">old</span> "Windows," the computers the system operates and any other <span class="il">electronic</span> equipment.

<span class="il">Electronics</span> recycling returns from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in Carrier Mills on the Carrier Mills Municipal Building Parking lot, 101 N. Mill St. After Saturday's event, the <span class="il">electronics</span> recycling will not return until the spring, officials report.

Anything that can be plugged in is required to be recycled, officials said in a Wednesday press release.

No longer can <span class="il">electronics</span> be taken to a landfill. Most of the items are free to dispose of, but not everything is free.

A couple of changes since the last collection. Console and big screen TVs are $10. Small screen TVs, computer monitors and small flat screens all cost $5 to recycle.

Due to costs, vacuums, microwaves, printers and copiers are no longer recycled for free; they now cost $1 to recycle.

The recycler also will except used motor oil and batteries of all sizes, for free. <span class="il">Old</span> paint can be dropped off as well, for $1 a gallon. Tires are no longer accepted.

So, for Carrier Mills residents who have <span class="il">old</span> TVs or refrigerators that quit -- and don't know what to do with them -- bring them to the <span class="il">electronics</span> recycling and disposal event on Saturday.
