Hathaway's three TDs lead CHS past JC

Jack Hathaway ran for 123 yards and three touchdowns, and the Chester JV football team turned an 18-point halftime lead into a 44-20 win over Johnston City on Monday.

<span>Hathaway had touchdown runs of 40, 36 and 9 for the Yellow Jackets (3-2, 3-2 Black Diamond Conference), who rebounded from last week's overtime loss to Sesser-Valier-Waltonville-Woodlawn.</span>

<span>CHS freshman Eathan Thompson ran for 36 yards and a touchdown - his first high school score - while Brady Kelkhoff (six carries for 32 yards) also found the end zone. Pierson Lyons contributed 56 yards on four carries.</span>

<span>Nick Meyer went 2-for-2 for 55 yards at quarterback for Chester, with a 44-yard touchdown pass to Clayton Richelman as a highlight.</span>

<span>Defensively, Drake Bollman and Thompson led Chester with 14 tackles each, while Chase Colvis had seven and Kelkhoff had six.</span>

<span>After giving up an early touchdown to Johnston City, Chester rattled off three straight scores to take a 24-6 lead at halftime.</span>

<span>The Indians closed to within 10, 24-14, on a touchdown with 6:54 left in the third quarter, but Chester added scores from Thompson and Richelman to stretch its advantage to 38-14.</span>
