BASEBALL: Elverado advances to Regional championship in Class S

The Elverado Falcons advanced to the regional championship game by defeating Opdyke Belle-Rive 3-2 on Friday.

Tanner Shread threw a complete game striking out 13, walking 4 and allowing only 1 hit. Both runs were unearned.

The Falcons got on the board in the fourth Inning when Hunter McRoy singled in Joey Iaccino who walked and stole second base. The Falcons put up two more runs up in the fifth - Trystan Wyatt scored when Chase Buser drew a bases-loaded walk, and Iaccino singled in T. Shread who had reached on a fielder's choice.

Opdyke Bell-Rive had the tying run at second base in the seventh inning after two errors and a walk brought in two runs, but T. Shread induced a pop fly that center fielder Jesse Shread made a diving catch on to end the ball game.

"Tanner was very good today," said Elverado coach Jim Kowzan. "The only hit they had was a bunt single that we almost made the play on. We had a couple of fielding errors that really hurt in the seventh, but then a great defensive play bailed us out."

Elverado will play Ewing on Monday in Whittington at 4:30 p.m.
