Prep Football: Eldorado stays unbeaten at 4-0

Not every Picasso painting was a masterpiece.

The same might be true for Eldorado, who despite cruising by Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton 48-7 Friday night, didn't come away with a very good look for head coach Brandon Hampton.

"I wasn't happy with the way we played," Hampton said. "I think we have played better this year and I think we were a little bit more talented than them and we were able to make more plays. I thought our kids fought, it was just sloppy on both sides of the ball."

Eldorado got a pair of touchdown runs from Tre Vessel, coming from 10 yards and one yard in the first half and another two from Adam Ninness and Peyton Price as they went into the locker room up 28-0.

It was more of the same for the Eagles in the second half, who despite struggling at times on defense, put the game away in the fourth quarter with a pair of big runs from Alex Molinarolo, who ripped off a 34-yard run and Connor Watt who raced his race 44 yards for a score.

A win is a win and Hampton knows he would rather win ugly than lose pretty.

"You only get nine of these, so we're going to enjoy it, but there will be a lot of work that needs to get done from Week 4 to Week 5."

Eldorado held C-Z-R in check, allowing 276 yards of total offense, 215 of that came on the ground as Dustin Barnett finished with 136 on 18 carries.

Hampton added he didn't know how much of a good job his team did of respecting their opponent.

"I don't know if we thought we could come out here and roll over them because we are Eldorado, but the film should tell me more than that. I'm excited that we won and we did some great things, including executing on offense. We have to clean up a couple of penalties and turnovers and we're better than this defensively. I'm not sure if we played that good defensively, although the effort was there and we fought hard."

The lone score for the Bearcats came in the third quarter when senior Hunter Wheeler scored on a two-yard run. Wheeler, a point of emphasis for Hampton coming into the game, had 24 yards on eight carries and caught two passes for 43 yards.

"He got loose a couple of times. He's going to make some plays, he's just that kind of athlete, but he didn't take it to the house on us or break a big one, which I think was key for us. They were pretty patient in their run game, I thought, and stay close a litle bit," Hampton added.

Eldorado was led by Drew Wooloctt, who had 97 yards on eight carries, while Price had 86 yards on 10 carries. Vessel wasn't far behind with 65 yards on 10 carries.
