Downtown Du Quoin to go pink for breast cancer month

Downtown Du Quoin will be awash in pink during October because of a very caring and thoughtful idea tendered by Du Quoin street superintendent Doug Hill and paid for by Alongi's co-owner Guy Alongi.

The Du Quoin Street Department will change the lighting in the sidewalk lanterns for one month to pink in observance of national Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Mayor Guy Alongi said his cousin--also Guy Alongi--is paying for the pink lantern bulbs. There is no cost to taxpayers.

Alongi said Doug Hill's mother is a cancer survivor and this project will engage all of Du Quoin in the fight against breast cancer. Watch for lighting change starting October 1.
