GOLF: PCHS wins Lady Panther Invitational, dominates Tuesday's tri-match

Pinckneyville's girls golfers were in top form on Friday afternoon, taking first place at their own Lady Panthers Invitational at Red Hawk Golf Club, beating out second-place Nashville by seven strokes. Okawville took home third out of the eight teams in attendance.

PCHS was led by medalist award winner Sarah Breslin's nine-hole score of 36, which edged out Okawville's Kendall Lintker by a stroke for the individual crown. Also placing high for Pinckneyville were Megan Breslin (3rd, 40) and Ellie Carlson (4th-tie, 43), and Trista Ogilvie's 48 completed the Lady Panthers' score of 167. Graci McDaniel (48) and Erica Crews (50) rounded out Pinckneyville's team of six at the tournament.

It was the first time in the event's history that the host Lady Panthers took home the championship.

Pinckneyville continued their hot streak on Tuesday at Red Hawk, improving on Friday's four-person total of 167 by two strokes to finish well ahead of Du Quoin (237) and visiting Waltonville (223).

Sarah Breslin took home her fourth medalist award this season with a 38 as one of four PCHS girls to shoot 44 or better. Megan Breslin was second with a 41, Ogilvie third with a 42, and Carlson fourth with a 44. Crews shot 47 and McDaniel posted a 52.

For the Lady Indians, Gabrielle Alvarado led the team by carding a 56. Carlie Daffron (57), Maddison Dorsey (62), Camryn Little (62) and Katlyn Swallers (73) also competed for Du Quoin.

Up next for the Lady Panthers (25-4) is the Anna Invitational on Thursday. Du Quoin's next match comes on September 14 at Red Hawk against both Pinckneyville and Sparta.
