CHS boys golf wins own invitational
<span>The Chester High School boys golf team hosted their Chester Invitational on September 2 at the Chester Country Club. </span>
<span>Competing teams included Chester, Trico, Steeleville, Sparta and Murphysboro. The Yellow Jacket golfers came through and not only won the tournament with a team score of 331, but Chester's Baylee Modglin was the Low medalist with a score of 75.</span>
<span>Plaques were presented to the golfers with the top five low scores. In addition to Modglin, the other top five scores were Chester's Austin Welge (79), Sparta's Ryan Ramsey (78), Trico's Nate McMillian (83) and Murphysboro's Matt Burke (84).</span>
<span>As a team, Trico took second with 363 strokes. Steeleville placed third with 367 and Sparta recorded 374 strokes to round out the top three. </span>
<span>Other Chester championship team members included senior Derek Mott, who shot 86 and junior Brennan White, who shot 92 for the tournament. Yellow Jackets Jacob Wingerter, a freshman, recorded a score of 106 and junior Matt Smith shot 114.</span>
<span>Steeleville was led by Koeneman and Brock Quigley who both had scores of 91 strokes. They were joined by teammates Middendorf (92) and Trenton Hepp (93). </span>
CHS 165, A-J 178
<span>On September 1, the Yellow Jackets hosted Anna-Jonesboro in a dual match at the Chester Country Club.</span>
<span>CHS won the nine-hole competition with a team score of 165 strokes. The Wildcats finished with a team score of 178 strokes.</span>
<span>Bay Modglin came through for the Yellow Jackets once again as medalist with a score of 37 strokes. Teammate Austin Welge shot 39 for CHS, while Brenna White had a score of 44 and Derek Mott finished with 45.</span>
CHS Girls Golf
<span>The Chester Lady Yellow Jackets traveled to Marissa for a five-team match on September 1 at White Oaks Country Club course.</span>
<span>The competition included Chester, Marissa, Red Bud, Sparta and Woodlawn. The Lady Yellow Jackets were led by junior Jackie Hopkins, who had a team-low score of 52.</span>
<span>Sarah Hecht finished with a score of 53 strokes and Emily Tudor had a score of 54 strokes. </span>
<span>Marissa won the match with a score of 209 strokes. Lady Meteor Abby Knop was the low medalist for the day with 45 strokes.</span>
<span>Red Bud and Trico each had identical scores of 225 strokes to tie for second in the team standings. </span>
<span>Woodlawn placed fourth with 227 strokes.</span>
