Sophomore Football: Harrisburg shuts out Mt. Carmel

The Harrisburg sophomore football team started the season off on the right foot, shutting out Mt. Carmel 32-0 last week.

Harrisburg took a 28-0 lead at halftime, scoring four times as Hunter Smith got the scoring going with a 69-yard run in the first quarter and Isaiah Saulsberry followed that up with a 43-yard run with 4:40 to play.

Smith then scored from 11 yards out at 9:53 of the second quarter and the next Harrisburg touchdown was set up by an interception by Blake Drue.

Saulsberry hooked up with Smith for a 25 yard pass with one second to play before halftime.

Defense went to work in the second half as Cole Ferrell recorded a safety at 8:57 of the fourth quarter and Hunter Jackson also recorded a safety with 41 seconds to go in the fourth.

"It was nice to open the season with a win," Harrisburg sophomore head coach Kyle McGowan said. "I thought our offense played well the first half but it needs to do a better job of playing four quarters. Defensively, we played really well. We bent at times but never gave up a score. Anytime you can hold your opponent to zero points it's hard to complain about how your defense played."
