Saturday morning accident claims life of Du Quoin woman

A 37-year-old Du Quoin woman was killed Saturday morning as the result of an 8:05 a.m. two-vehicle crash at the intersection of New Kathleen Mine Road and Green's Market Road southwest of Du Quoin.

Officials say Tarsha L. Williams, 37, was driving east on Greens Market Road approaching the intersection with Kathleen Mine Road.

Williams failed to stop at the stop sign posted for eastbound traffic and proceeded into the intersection.

She then collided with Brian F. Henderson, 69, also of Du Quoin, who was southbound on Kathleen Mine Road.

Both Williams and Henderson, as well as a passenger in Williams' car, Phillip L. Johnson, 48, were transported to Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Williams was pronounced dead by the attending physician.

Johnson was airlifted to St. Louis Hospital with severe leg trauma. Henderson was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Du Quoin Fire Department was called to the scene and extricated the victims from Williams' 2004 dark blue cadillac.

Henderson was driving a 2015 black and silver Jeep Wrangler.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Watts Towing of Du Quoin.

The Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

Du Quoin Fire and Rescue, Du Quoin Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff's Office assisted in the investigation.
