Norlen “Butcut” Craig
<pre class="aLF-aPX-K0-aPE aLF-aPX-aLK-ayr-auR">Norlen "Butcut" Craig, age 91, of Carrier Mills passed away at 12:14pm Saturday in the Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Norlen was born on January 12, 1924 in Saline County to the late Marion and Ledith Roper Craig. He was married to the former Vivian Chase Murphy on August 28, 1979 and she preceded him in death on April16, 2015. Norlen was veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Budd Plant in Gary, IN. a division of General Motors. He was a member of the Carrier Mills American Legion Post 364. Norlen was instrumental in getting the War Memorial Statues erected in Carrier Mills.
He is survived by his step son: Billy (Judy) Murphy of Carrier Mills. Grandchildren: Debbie Newcomb and Robert Murphy. Great-grandchildren: Amy Munsell and Tamara Cook. Great-great-grandchild: Baily Cook. Nieces and Nephew, Myra Jo Milligan, Norma Dearing, and Beverly Willis, Gene Edward Kidd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 2 Brothers: J.B. Craig and Harry "Red" Craig and a sister Betty Kidd.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday August 11, 2015 at 11:00am at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Rev Harl Cockrum will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery with Military rites by the Carrier Mills American Legion Post #364. Friends may call at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home after 9:00am on Tuesday. Memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois are the preferred choice of remembrance in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.</pre>
