Lowell D. Sturgill

<span>Lowell D. Sturgill, 74, formerly of Carbondale, Ill., passed away on August 3, 2015 while at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">Lowell was born on July 3, 1941, in Hardin County to Wayne B. and Laverne (Hubbard) Sturgill.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">He married Eileen (Williams) Sturgill on November 18, 1962 at Good Hope General Baptist Church. Together they shared 52 years of wedded bliss. Lowell is survived by Eileen and their three children; Mike (Julie) Sturgill of Carterville, IL, Cindy Sturgill and her boyfriend Geoffrey Geittmann of Marion, IL, and Cheryl Sturgill of Normal, IL.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">Other survivors include Mike and Julie's children; Jessie, Maddie, and Seth. Cheryl's children; Nate and Sam Irwin. Sister in Law, Thelma Reed of Delavan, and Brother in Law Jim Marler of Herod. Lowell is survived by two nephews, David Reed and Jimmy Marler and family. He is also survived by five Aunts; Christine and Herb Vineyard, Marcella and Jim Belt , Opal Hubbard, Arvetta Rose, Juanetta Hubbard, and several cousins.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">Lowell was a member of Good Hope General Baptist Church in Herod.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">He began his career in Carbondale as a barber, where he worked for 14 years. He then transitioned into construction where he was proud to be the Construction Supervisor of the Murdale Baptist Church when it moved to 2701 W. Main St. Lowell also assisted in the construction of the Carbondale Towers located on W. Mill St. and numerous other homes in and around the city. Lowell worked in the maintenance of seven buildings for the Carbondale Elementary School District #95 where he retired in 2005. He was extremely proud to build both of the homes He and Eileen lived within.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">In his free time Lowell enjoyed being with his family, hunting, fishing, boating, golfing, and playing pool.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">Lowell was preceded in death by his Father Wayne Sturgill and Mother, Lavern Davis, Aunts and Uncles; James Hubbard, Betty Hollen, Junior Hubbard, Otis Hubbard, and Gene Hubbard.</span>

<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif;">Hardin County Funeral Services, Cox Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements. Visitation was held on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at the funeral home. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Good Hope General Baptist Church. Burial followed at Good Hope Cemetery. Rev. Paul Hicks and Rev. James Hubbard officiated the services.</span>
