Carla J. (Cape) Sullivan

<pre class="western">Carla J. (Cape) Sullivan, age 88, of Harrisburg, died Sunday morning, August 2, 2015, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Carla was born on April 12, 1927, in Harrisburg, to Frank and Laura (Steagall) Cummins. Carla graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1944 after being crowned Homecoming Queen. She attended the Univerisity of Illinois for 2 years, where she was a member of Chi Omega. Carla graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in sociology.

In addition to her parents, Carla was preceded in death by her husbands, James L. Frazier who was killed in the Korean Conflict, John Cape, and Dale Sullivan. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Herb Cummins.

Carla was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who was active in the community. She was a member of P.E.O Sisterhood for 60 years. She also volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross, and her children's schools. Carla found great joy in traveling, and spending time with friends, new and old. She was beloved by all who knew her for her friendliness and sense of humor.

Carla was a devout member of the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg. She taught Sunday School for the pre-schoolers for 20 years, was a GA leader, was active in W.M.U. and a member of various committees.

Carla is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Judy Cape, of Harrisburg, two daughters, Connie Frazier of Harrisburg, and Chris Cape of Sanders, Arizona, and four granddaughters that she was very proud of, Emma Cape of Oakland, California, Dana Cape of Los Angeles, California, Sophie Cape of Nashville, Tennessee, and Alysha Arrates of Durango, Colorado. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services for Carla J. (Cape) Sullivan will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Rev. Chris Winkleman will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg and from 9 AM to 10 AM, Friday, August 7, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg, the Carmi Baptist Children's Home or the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
