SHOOTING: Pinckneyville cleans house at National Championships

The Pinckneyville Shooting Sports team emerged victorious this weekend at the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships, winning both the High School Sporting Clays crown, and the High Overall Team National Championship at the World Shooting Complex in Sparta.

Pinckneyville's Andy Opp also claimed a pair of National Championships as an individual shooter, winning the Varsity High School Sporting Clays and High Overall Individual Shooter titles at the event, which included over 2,800 competitors from across the country.

The team of Opp, Tyler Thomas and Max Fox also took first place High School Team Sporting Clays winning a National Championship.

Panthers Opp, Thomas and Ellie Winder earned second place in their division of the High School Sporting Clays Team competition, and Opp, Thomas and Trey Borque were third in the Skeet Team portion of the championships.

The Pinckneyville shooting team is led by head coach Stu Wright, sporting clays coach Donnie Nehring, skeet coach Mitch Feltmeyer, and assistants Robert Pyatt and Mark Rohlfing.

Other members of the Pinckneyville shooting squad include James Davidson, Lee Wittenauer, Sophie Ashbrook, Chase Brand, Luke Chapman, Ethan Cheek, Caleb Conway, Lucas Doerflein, Megan Fallon, Keaton Haege, Chris Haire, Richard Jones, Hudson Kreger, Jacob Krummrich, Caleb Lee, Colton Loos, Jacob Miller, Austin Nehring, Lathyn Nehring, Mychal Pfeaster, Jared Pritchett, Dalton Pyatt, Riley Rice, Derek Rohlfing, Michael Skinner, Marissa Stowers, Hayden Swain, Gabbi Vordtriede, Sydney Wright and Hunter Zoeckler.
