Murphy USA gas station to be latest addition to Harrisburg

Murphy USA representatives, city officials and Saline County Chamber of Commerce members gathered on Wednesday for the groundbreaking of the city's newest gas station.

Operating in 23 states with nearly 1,300 gas stations, Murphy USA has locations in Fairfield, Carmi, Salem, Evansville and West City. Harrisburg's Murphy USA station will be located in the area just west of Wal-Mart off of S. Commercial St.

Harrisburg's store will be just one of 60 new stores the El Dorado, Arkansas-based company is opening in the U.S. this year.

"We're happy to be part of the community," said District Manager Adam Lessley.

Harrisburg Mayor Dale Fowler welcomed the new business.

"We're happy to have you here," Fowler said to Murphy USA representatives. "We've had construction in all four corridors for the past two or three years, and we thank you very much for choosing us."

The business will bring in 250 labor hours per week for 12 employees, including store Manager Keith Smith.

Construction on the new 1,400 square-foot store will begin August 10, and will be completed about 14 weeks after construction begins.
