American Legion: Post 364 goes 3-2 over weekend

Carrier Mills Post 364 went 3-2 over the weekend as they beat West Frankfort and swept a double header from Albion. The two losses came on the road in Mayfield, Ky.

Game 1: Mayfield 3, Carrier Mills 4

Zach McGuire (Gallatin County) gave up four hits and walked four in the Game 1 loss last Friday night.

Post 364 did not help themselves out managing only four hits on the night as Lane Hutson singled twice. Bryce Batson and Ethan Davis also singled.

Game 2: Mayfield 5, Carrier Mills 3

Post 364 out hit Mayfield 8-5 on the night, but three costly errors proved to be the difference. Justice Hill took the loss on the mound, scattering five hits and only walked two.

At the plate, Lane Hutson and Colton Winters had a pair of singles, while Skyler Smith, Darren Betz, Anthony Kalodner and Colton McCree all singled.

Carrier Mills 12, West Frankfort 5

Post 364 bounced back Saturday night defeating West Frankfort 12-5 in a 9 inning affair.

Lane Hutson pitched seven strong innings and Ethan Davis finished the last two. They combined for nine hits and four walks.

Carrier Mills exploded for 19 hits against West Frankfort as Colton Winters had three singles. Skyler Smith roped a double and a single and Colton McCree had a double and two singles. Lane Hutson and Darren Betz each finished with a pair of hits, while Anthony Kalodner, Brice Batson, Zach McGuire and Justice Hill all had singles.

Game 1: Carrier Mills 6, Albion 4

Loren Whiting picked up the win, giving up eight hits and only three walks.

Albion got on the board first with three runs in the top of the second inning, but Post 364 came back to win the game with a strong fifth inning.

Carrier Mills scored four runs when Skyler Smith singled, Lane Hutson reach base on an error. Darren Betz blasted a home run over the centerfield fence and Loren Whiting singled then scored when Colton McCree ripped a single.

Carrier Mills finished with eight hits on the night as Betz had a home run and double, while Whiting finished with a double and single. Skyler Smith and Colton McCree each had two singles.

Game 2: Carrier Mills 15, Albion 1

Colton McCree was in command pitching this five inning shortened game. He gave up one run with only two hits and two walks.

Post 364 exploded for 13 hits as Colton Winters sailed one over the fence in the third inning. Skyler Smith was 2-for-2 with two doubles and Brice Batson was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles.

Darren Betz went 3-for-4 with two doubles and single, while Loren Whiting was also 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single.

Justice Hill had a pair of hits, while, Colton McCree, Zach McGuire and Ethan Davis all had a hit.

"So far our pitching has been strong," Post 364 head coach David Betz said. "Our hitting has been balanced and we are still a work in progress. I have a good group of boys that come ready to play and are willing to do whatever I ask of them."
