Mayor Fowler Proclaims June 6 WoodmenLife Day in Harrisburg

Mayor Dale Fowler signed a proclamation declaring June 6 as WoodmenLife Day in Harrisburg at the city council meeting on June 4. Woodmen of the World is a not for profit insurance and investment company. The organization was established in 1890 by Joseph Cullen Root of Lyons, Iowa with the goal of providing death benefits for people of modest financial means. In 190 years, the company has grown to handle investment as well as insurance services and has 700,00 members. WoodmenLife also provides United States flags free of charge to any school, church or non-profit organization in the country.

The Mayors proclamation reads in part "WoodmenLife has been an active part of Harrisburg area since 1913," "WoodmenLife engages in activities celebrating the United States and educating young people on the spirt of patriotism in including the distribution of 2.5 million U.S. Flags" and "WoodmenLife is a source of of financial strength that has enriched Harrisburg, by protecting families and contributing to the community."

"Now therefore, I, Dale Fowler, Mayor of Harrisburg, Illinois, declare June 6, 2015 WoodmenLife Day in Harrisburg."
