Under construction: City parking lot upgraded

The city parking behind two of downtown Harrisburg's most frequented businesses will be all fixed up by week's end.

Harrisburg street department workers were out Monday morning repairing the parking lot, which had been in bad shape for awhile, behind Gypsy Moon Boutique and The Burg Café, said Superintendent of the Street Department Rick Brown.

A sinkhole, where the basement of a building used to be, formed slowly under the parking lot over the years, Brown said. Street department crews were tearing up the old concrete, clearing out and planning on refilling it this week.

Crews will also repave the alleyway behind the businesses to create more parking and a handicap accessible footpath.

The street department has several projects planned for this summer. In the next two to three weeks, Brown said the department is planning on replacing a culvert at the southern end of Harrisburg's Tunnel Hill bike trail just north of Feazel St.
