Fort Massac State Park to host River Science event

Rivers are of great importance for not only transportation and industry but biologically and geologically as well, say representatives of the Fort Massac State Park.

Attendees of the River Science event at Fort Massac State Park will learn why rivers are so important and explore concepts of water pressure, oxygen levels, pH levels, aquatic vegetation and water density. Water samples will also be examined under a microscope to see all of the living organisms. There will also be an Illinois Department of Natural Resources Fish Shocking Boat that will demonstrate how they shock fish for collecting data.

The event will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m., June 19 at the Fort Massac State Park Visitor Center, 1308 E. 5th St., Metropolis, Illinois 62960. To register, please contact Fort Massac State Park at (618) 524-4712. Admission is free.
