TRACK & FIELD: DHS's Jones 5th, PCHS 4x400 6th at State Finals
Du Quoin's Devin Jones and Pinckneyville's 4x400 meter relay team both returned home with medals from this past weekend's IHSA Boys Track & Field State Final meet in Charleston, as Jones placed fifth in the discus throw and the Panthers came in sixth in the 4x400.
PCHS's team, consisting of seniors Tristan Fisher, Brian Taylor and Chris Mitchell and sophomore Caleb Logan, crossed the line sixth in the final heat of the 4x400 meter relay at a time of 3:27.40. Arcola won the race at a blistering pace of 3:20.65.
Jones, a sophomore, achieved a distance of 156'02 in the discus. Tuscola senior Stephen Gibson was the state champ with a throw of 175'09.
Also competing for the Indians in the final round on Saturday was sophomore Caleb Vogel, whose height of 6'1 placed him in a tie for twelfth in the high jump finals. Noah Adams from Macon (Meridian) won the event, clearing 6'10.
Tolono (Unity) won the team state championship, Carthage (Illini West) was second, Arcola third.
