Obituary: James "Jim" Daniel Dunn

James "Jim" Daniel Dunn, age 76, of Harrisburg, passed away at 3:04 a.m., May 28, 2015 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Jim was born Wednesday, March 1, 1939 to the late Lee and Inez (Cole) Dunn in Saline County. He married Carolyn Dearing on September 4, 1960. He worked as a shift supervisor at A. L. Bowen Center, Saline County Deputy Sheriff, and retired as Saline County Sheriff.

Jim attended Dorrisville Baptist Church and was a member of the Saline County Historical Society, the Illinois Sheriff's Association, and was a trustee of the Ebenezer Cemetery Board.

Jim is survived by his wife Carolyn Dunn; son, Danny Dunn and wife Emily of Harrisburg; son, Steve Dunn and wife Julie of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren, Jessica Shires, Audrey Shires, Cody Shires, Hillary Hall and husband Matt; Adam K. Tate and Kori Krankota, Blake Tate and Bethany Bryant; Jessica Lechner and husband Matt; and Sarah Dunn; four great-grandchildren, Kennedy Roark, Stratton Tate, Avery Tate, and Baby Hall due in December.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, mother-in-law, Opal Dearing, and father-in-law, Ewell Dearing.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Dorrisville Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 30 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Cemetery and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
