Death notice: Bobby “Bob” Gene Humphrey
Bobby "Bob" Gene Humphrey, age 81, of Golconda, Illinois passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Rosiclare Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Rosiclare. He was born on July, 6, 1933 to the late Freeman and Lois (Hancock) Humphrey in Harrisburg. He married Peggy Ann Thomas on February 1, 1956. Bob worked for Corps of Engineers for 33 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Bob enjoyed having a garden so he could share with everybody. He liked to ride his lawnmower with his dog (Wishbone). Bob loved when the family came and he always had cokes and ice cream for the children. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Ann, of Metropolis; two daughters, Melody Kay (Chet) Jenkins of Metropolis, Debra (Edward) Smith of Golconda; four grandchildren, Maley Sumners of Metropolis, Mike (Connie) Smith of Herod, Tracy (Jim Bob) O'Neal of Ridgway, Ryan (Lauren) Smith of Golconda; two step grandchildren, Carley Carter, Tyler Carter; three great grandchildren, Brooklynn Smith, Kaitlynn O'Neal, Madelynn O'Neal; four sisters, Terri(Roger) Steven of Raleigh, Margaret (Lindell) Prather of Harrisburg, Carol Wilikerson of Fort Myers, Florida, Frances (Vonnie) Holliman of Mississippi; three brothers, Ronald Humphrey of Kokomo, Indiana, Phillip (Monica) Humphrey of Golconda, Charles (Julie) Humphrey of Harrisburg; step mother, Ida Mae Humphrey. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Peggy Richie, Lenora Basham. Graveside service was held at Ingram Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg on Thursday, May 28 at 11 a.m. Brother Toby Williams conducted the service. Visitation was 10 a.m. until the time of service at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
