TRACK & FIELD: DHS's Mays, PCHS's Keith finish 4th at State Finals
Du Quoin sophomore Tarynn Mays and Pinckneyville junior Sophie Keith both returned home from the IHSA Track & Field State Finals with a 4th place medal after Saturday's final rounds in Charleston, Ill.
Mays matched her preliminary round distance of 36'4.5, a DHS school record, in the triple jump finals. She finished just half an inch out of third place (Annie Carlson, Westmont, 36'5) and only two inches behind second (Lexi Wilkinson, Seneca, 36'6.5).
Keith won her preliminary race in the 400 meters on Friday and entered Saturday's finals unbeaten in the event this season. She was beaten by three seniors, led by Sullivan's Amanda McClain (55.18), and crossed the line at a time of 58.40.
Du Quoin's Andrea Lopez also competed in Charleston on Saturday, finishing 27th in the 3200 meter run (12:53.68).
Carthage (Illini West) won the Class A team championship with 52 total team points. Sidell (Jamaica) was second (47), Sullivan third (40).
