TRACK & FIELD: Panthers second at boys SIRR meet
Pinckneyville placed second at Thursday afternoon's Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Boys Track & Field Championships, winning three relay events and getting a first-place finish in the Triple Jump from Tristan Fisher with a distance of 40'6. Sparta placed first in the team standings.
Du Quoin finished the meet in sixth as a team, but did win conference titles in the discus with Devin Jones' throw of 142'0.5, and the 4x200 meter freshman relay race.
The Panthers crossed the line first in the 4x100, 4x200 (varsity) and 4x400 meter relays.
Other PCHS athletes placing in the top three of at least one event at the conference meet included Caleb Logan (2nd, 100 meters), Cale Jausel (3rd, 1600 meters), Caulden Lazenby (2nd, long jump) and Zach Hagene (2nd, shot put).
Caleb Vogel was the only other Indian to place in the top three of an event, finishing third in both the high jump and the triple jump.
All local athletes placing in the top eight are listed in the results run-down on the scoreboard page of today's newspaper.
Both Pinckneyville and Du Quoin will be competing at the Chester Sectional next Thursday in hopes of qualifying for the IHSA State Finals, which begin on Thursday, May 28 in Charleston.
