“Honk” to be this year's Jr. Falcon summer show, child auditions Tuesday

Any well-informed kiddo knows the story of "The Ugly Duckling," the fairy tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen<span class="s1">.</span>

The story of the homely bird becoming a beautiful swan is reimagined in the musical "Honk!"<span class="s1">,</span> the choice for this year's Junior Falcons Productions summer show.

Created by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and released in 1993, "Honk" has been produced all around the world over 8,000 times and in many different languages. In 2000, it won Best Musical in the Olivier Awards, which are presented annually by the Society of London Theatre<span class="s1">.</span>

This year, Junior Falcons Productions, a youth community theater involving kids from Harrisburg, Eldorado, Carrier Mills, Galatia and Gallatin County, will put on "Honk" for locals to enjoy from Friday, July 24 through Sunday, July 26<span class="s1">.</span> As in former productions, a live pit will perform for the show.

On May 19 and 20, child auditions for the musical will take place at Southeastern Illinois College in the VPAC Theater Lower Lobby, 3575 College Rd., at 4 p.m.

"Honk" Director Hannah Drake says this is the perfect opportunity for kids of all ages.

"This show will give opportunities for students of all ages to have leading roles," Drake said in a press release, adding that the show is "[f]illed with great music and wonderful characters."

Drake said she hopes kids who have performed previously will return, and she also invites newcomers.

"I hope to see everyone back as well as some new faces<span class="s1">.</span>"
