SOFTBALL: Lady Falcons win for fourth day in a row

Playing for the fourth time in as many days, Elverado won for the fourth time in as many days - making quick work of visiting Dongola 15-3 in Vergennes.

EHS's 3-through-6 batters all had at least two hits. The Lady Falcons have won nine of their last twelve games overall.

"We hit the ball very well tonight, ran the bases well," said Elverado head coach Donette Wheatley. "The girls have had a great week."

Paige Newfarmer tripled and scored on an error in the bottom of the first for a 1-0 Lady Falcons lead. EHS plated five in the second inning, getting hits from Brooke Whittington (double), Kaitlin Lively (RBI single) and Baylie McClanahan (triple) as they went up 6-0.

The onslaught continued in the third with RBIs from Tori Ehlers (single) and Whittington (ground-out), and wrapped up in the bottom of the fourth when eleven Lady Falcons came to the plate, seven of them scoring.

Whittington worked the circle for Elverado in the win, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.

McClanahan (1-3, 2 R, 3B), Newfarmer (2-3, 2 R, 3B), Ehlers (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI), Whittington (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2B), Lively (1-3, 2 R, RBI) and Britani Prescott (2-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B) had hits for EHS.

Elverado (11-9, 7-0) is at Benton for a tournament on Saturday, then at Joppa on Monday. They'll wrap up their regular season on Wednesday against Cobden at home.

The Lady Falcons (seeded third) will begin Regional play on Wednesday, May 20 at Campbell Hill in the Trico Regional against second-seeded Cobden.
