Prep Track & Field: Best Foot Forward
Harrisburg put its best foot forward at last week's Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Track and Field Meet.
That best foot just so happened to come from Bryleigh Buchanan as the Bulldog freshman led Harrisburg to three first place finishes.
Hosting the event, the Bulldogs finished fourth in the Ohio, as Herrin took the title with 211 points.
Murphysboro was a distant second with 95 points, followed by 92 points from West Frankfort and Harrisburg with 75 points. Benton finished fourth with 53 points and Massac County rounded out the Ohio side with 40 points.
On the Mississippi side, Carterville was 47 points better than Nashville, winning with 150 points, while the Hornets took second with 103 points.
Buchanan had three first place finishes for the Bulldogs as she won the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-feet-10. She then won the 100 meter dash on the Ohio side with a time of 12.72 and took home the gold in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.93.
Brantlea Jones had a second place finish in the high jump, finishing not far behind Buchanan's mark at 4-feet-8.
Devan Jones also finished second for the Bulldogs in the shot put with a toss of 35-feet-10.
The 3200 meter relay team and the 16000 meter relay team each finished third for the Bulldogs, crossing the line in 10:55.53 and 4:32.78, respectively.
Harrisburg returns home today (Monday) playing host to Carmi-White County and West Frankfort in the Harrisburg Invitational. The Bulldogs will then be at the IHSA Sectional Thursday at Troy-Triad.
