OBITUARY: Geraldine Randolph Cook

Geraldine Randolph Cook was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Harrisburg to Hiram and Omah Jackson Randolph. She attended Dorrisville Grade School, graduating with the class of 1938 and Harrisburg High School, class of 1943. She married William F. (Bill) Cook from Gaskin City on March 30, 1951, in Harrisburg. Geraldine worked at Dixie Dining Car and as a telephone operator when the switch board was located in the upper room of the Harrisburg National Bank. In 1955, they moved to Tucson, Arizona where she lived until her death, with the exception of 1981 to 1983. During this period of time, Bill and she returned to Harrisburg to care for her ailing mother.

Bill died on July 26, 1982. Geraldine remained in Harrisburg until her mother died in 1983. She then returned to Tucson.

She was a member of the mall mile walkers, walking a mile a day at the local shopping mall until she fell and fractured her shoulder. She had two special nephews and their families who took excellent care of her needs, especially after she went to live in an assistant living facility. Geraldine was the last of this old Dorrisville family. Hiram and Omah moved to Dorrisville in 1922. They operated Randolph's Grocery for many years.

Geraldine is survived by nephews, Don and Carole Locklear, Steve and Kathy Locklear, both of Tucson, Ariz., and James and Tammy Randolph of Evansville, Ind., Roger and Joni Graham of Harco, Ray and Mindy Graham of Normal, Chuck and Angie Cook and Robbie and Amy Cook, both of Nebraska; nieces, Martha and Don McGraw of Kankakee, Sarah and Bud Groves of Evansville, Ind., Janice and Greg Fontenot of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary Rivera of Harrisburg, Vickie and Mike Morris of Mt. Vernon, Ind., Roxanne and Lewis Doyle of Murphysboro, Tenn., Sharon and Mike Branham and Diane and Rick Puente both of Texas; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Randolph of Evansville, Ind.; brothers-in-law, Hillary Graham of Harrisburg and Robert Dale and Yvonne Cook of Nebraska. She also leaves 14 great-nephews and 13 great-nieces; seven great-great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; two great-nephews and three great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram and Omah Jackson Randolph; her husband, Bill, and an infant daughter Nancy Jo; brother, Waive Randolph; sisters and brother-in-laws, Joy and Wayne Moore, Bill and Gay Hull, Happy and Harold Locklear, and Gloria and Bert Small; sister-in-law, Madeine Cook Graham; nephew, Bertis Michael (Mike) Small; and nieces, Linda Lou Hull and Debra Marie Locklear.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2015, at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Those wishing to attend should go directly to cemetery. Colonial Terrace Funeral Home and Crematory in Eldorado are in charge of the arrangements.
