2015 Relay for Life still needs luminaria sponsors; 'Bank Night' Tuesday in Du Quoin

The luminaria ceremony, a poignant part of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Perry County, planned for Saturday, May 16, at Du Quoin High School, offers an opportunity to remember friends and family lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. Luminaria paper bags, bearing the name of an individual being honored or memorialized, are filled with sand and a candle and lit during the luminaria ceremony. They provide a visible reminder to those walking laps at Relay For Life of Perry County.

The requested donation to sponsor a Luminaria is $10. The cuminaria Ceremony will begin at 9 p.m., and offers relayers the opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who have had cancer and to remember loved ones lost to the disease.

Relay For Life of Perry County raises funds for cancer research, support services for area patients and their families, community education programs and advocacy initiatives.

To order luminaria or learn more about Relay For Life of Perry County, contact Alli Arvanis at American Cancer Society at 998-9898 option #3 or RelayForLife.org.
