SOFTBALL: Lady Indians shut out Z-R-C, 10-0

Five of Du Quoin's ten runs came from hitters that reached base on a walk or hit-by-pitch and Lady Indians starter Marisa Ferguson allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out three in the 10-0, five-inning complete game over Zeigler-Royalton-Christopher.

Ferguson (1-2, 2 RBI, 2B, BB), Alaina Caldwell (1-3, R, 2 RBI, 2B) and Timbra Mansfield (2-3, R, 2 RBI) all had two-RBI games for Du Quoin against ZRC.

"I thought we played very well tonight," said DHS head coach Jason James. "Ferguson pitched very well and we had some kids step up in RBI situations. This is a team that we will see in the first round of regionals. We didn't get to see their best pitcher but it does give us some confidence if we do play them. Tonight was our Senior night and it's a good feeling to get them a win on their day."

Du Quoin's big inning came in the third when Ferguson ripped a two-run double to bring in Amber Williams and Jordyn Bullar, each of whom reached base with a walk. A walk to Afton Robinson was followed by Amanda Atteberry reaching on an error, which brought up Caldwell for a two-run double. Mansfield singled two batters later to complete the seven-run rally.

Robinson (single) and Atteberry (error) added RBIs in the fourth, Mansfield singled and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to end the game.

Robinson (1-2, R, RBI, BB) and Williams (1-2, R, BB) also had hits for the Lady Indians.

Du Quoin is at Marissa for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
