BASEBALL: Falcons walk all over Bobcats, 13-1 in five
Elverado capitalized on ten walks and six errors by Meridian on Monday, scattering six hits into the mix of their 13-1, five-inning win over the Bobcats.
Avery Caraker tossed a two-hit complete game for the Falcons, walking four and striking out eleven.
"He threw strikes, and that's kind of common with him, that's what we expect out of him," said EHS head baseball coach Tim Davis. "We knew throwing strikes against this team was going to be beneficial."
Throwing strikes was definitely something that the Bobcats struggled with, especial in the top of the first when five of the first six Falcon hitters reached base via a free pass. The seventh batter, Caraker, drilled a two-run double to make it 4-1 Elverado after one inning of play.
Alec Valerius' single and a bases-loaded walk by Caraker provided RBIs for the Falcons in the second, while the Bobcats contributed three errors to the Elverado rally.
Zach Berner had RBI base hits in each of the next two innings as the Falcons put it away in five.
"It was a lot of walks and errors, very few hits," Davis said. "They weren't throwing many strikes, but we were able to get a couple hits to drive in some runs."
Berner (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI), Caraker (1-1, 3 RBI, 2B, BB), Valerius (1-3, 2 R, RBI, BB), Clayton Funk (1-2, 3 R, 2 BB) and Nolan Waller (1-2, 4 R, 2B, 2 BB) had hits for the Falcons.
Elverado (4-12) hosts Trico on Thursday.
