Fifth-graders help tidy the bike path

East Side fifth-graders in Jason Roper's class took a field trip just a block away to clean litter along the bike path in Harrisburg Tuesday.

"It feels good to out here helping the City of Harrisburg cleaning up the bike path," Malachi McCabe said.

With garbage bags and plastic gloves the youngsters combed the area behind Parker Plaza for litter. Roper said there was a surprising amount of litter in the area and McCabe said aluminum cans seemed to be the most popular.

The pupils learned about Earth Day last week and decided to make a difference this week.
