New staff, clinics, growth for Ferrell Hospital

Like the flowers, Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado is growing this spring to better serve health needs of the community.

Two new staff members and expanded clinic hours are part of this growth for the hospital. Family Nurse Practitioner Casey Carlile and Doctor Joey Jackson are joining the staff of Ferrell Hospital this spring. Carlile started in April and works Tuesday through Fridays in the family clinics at Ferrell. Jackson will begin seeing patients in July and the clinic will begin scheduling appointments with him in June.

In addition, the hospital is expanding their clinic hours in response to customer demand. On Saturdays, the clinic hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the clinic will be open on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

"We are the only clinic in the area open on Sundays," said Greta McKelvey, vice president of business operations and clinic director at Ferrell. "We are proud to be able to provide this service for the community."

In addition, Ferrell will be opening a mental health counseling clinic in mid-May and have expanded their therapy clinic in a new location. Ferrell Hospital Therapy Services is open at 1200 Pine Street and will provide cardiac, pulmonary and physical therapy services. These services are now consolidated in one location to provide greater convenience for patients.

"We have a lot of great things coming for the area," said Kristi Kasiar, community education director at Ferrell. "We look forward to continuing to expand and provide top quality health care services for the community."

Ferrell is also sponsoring a series of free community walks this spring. The first was held March 24 and the next four will be held in Eldorado and Harrisburg. On Friday, May 1, Ferrell will team up with First Southern Bank and hold a recreational community walk at the Eldorado Teen Park near the tennis courts.

On May 8 and May 16, Ferrell is teaming up with Steward Chiropractic Center and holding two walks starting at the Masonic Lodge in Harrisburg. On May 21, the last of the spring community walks will be held at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado and is a Walk with a Dog theme, with pet owners encouraged to bring their pets along for a walk. Dr. Joey Jackson will be on hand to meet the community. All of the community walks begin at 4:30 p.m. and run to 6 p.m., and are structured to be of no set distance or duration.

"We just want people to come out and walk for a while," said McKelvey. "Come out and join us for as long as you want, have a few snacks and enjoy the day in a healthy activity."

Free water and healthy snacks will be available at all the walks and there is no sing-up or time limits on the walks.

"Ferrell Hospital is here to stay and growing," McKelvey said. "We want to grow with the community and continue to promote the health of the people in our area."
