First all-district band performance is Monday
A recent fifth grade band performance packed the school gym and for those who missed it, there is another opportunity 6:30 p.m. Monday.
"Beginning band concerts always draw a really big crowd," high school and fifth grade band instructor Hannah Drake said.
But not only will the fifth grade band perform, the Sixth Grade Concert Band, the combined Seventh and Eighth Grade Concert Band and the High School Concert Band will be there as well at Harrisburg Middle School gym.
"This is our first ever all-district band concert," Drake said.
Parents will be able to evaluate the success of the district's band program by hearing the youngest musicians still learning their instruments, up through the seasoned high school musicians.
"This is a great time to see what it looks like from A to Z," Drake said.
Drake and Middle School music instructor Marc Henshaw have been holding daily rehearsals to prepare for the biggest night of school music the district has heard.
"The idea is for fifth grade parents to see what the kids are going to take part in, hopefully, from fifth grade through high school," Drake said.
The community will also be able to hear what the High School Concert Band has been rehearsing in preparation for a contest in Cincinnati, Ohio. The High School Jazz Band will also be traveling to Cincinnati.
"This is something totally new for us. A lot of community members ask for our concert band to perform," Drake said.
