Prep Track & Field: Solid Showing

The Harrisburg High School girls track and field team finished second at Wednesday's Carmi-White County Invitational, finishing with 76.5 points, falling to top finisher Christopher-Zeigler-Roylaton.

C-Z-R scored 154 points, while Johnston City was third was 57 points and Benton finished fourth with 56 points. Flora rounded out the top five with 54 points.

Hamilton County (39), Fairfield (38.5), Carmi-White County (37), Sesser-Valier (35.5), Eldorado (7) and Norris City-Omaha-Enfield (5) rounded out the field.

The Bulldogs' 3200 meter relay team of Franchesca Laurencio, Ashley Cain, Kiara Rann and Taylor McDaniel took first place, finishing with a time of 10:56, while the other first place ribbon went to the 1600 meter relay team, consisting of Laurencio, Tiffanie Milligan, Rann and McDaniel.

A handful of second place finishes were handed out to Harrisburg, including Laurencio in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04, while Jenny Buchanan took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.8 and Brantlea Jones placed second in the high jump, clearing 4-feet-6.

Buchanan placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.4, while McDaniel was third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:42. Cain had a time of 6:34 in the 1600 meter run for a third place finish.

Milligan had a time of 15:39 in the 3200 meter run for a fourth place finish and Rann took sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:56.

The 800 meter relay team had a time of 2:04, while Morgan Denbo had a toss of 77-feet-3 in the discuss and Arianna Boma went 47-feet in the same event.

Regan Thompson went 4-feet-4 in the high jump.
