BASEBALL: Falcons beat Joppa for second straight win
The Falcons picked up their second win in a row on Friday, knocking off Joppa 13-3 in six innings for their third win of the year. Every Elverado starter had at least one hit at the plate and pitchers Alec Valerius and Zach Berner combined to strike out fifteen Rangers.
Keaton Tyner doubled home Berner then scored when Austin Hester reached on an error in the bottom of the first inning to give the Falcons an early 2-0 lead.
Joppa had two hits and three walks in the top of the second inning to inch ahead 3-2, but from there Elverado dominated the remainder of the game both at the plate and from the pitching mound.
Avery Caraker, Gage Funk, Nolan Waller and Berner all singled in a three-run second as the Falcons retook the lead. Logan Cavitt's RBI base hit in the third inning made it 6-3 in favor of Elverado.
Three walks and an RBI single by Berner led to three more runs in the fourth, then Valerius (single) and Clayton Funk (two-run double) drove in runs in the sixth to put EHS up ten.
C. Funk (1-3, R, 2 RBI, 2B, 2 BB), Waller (1-3, RBI, BB), Berner (3-3, 3 R, 2 RBI, BB), Tyner (1-4, R, RBI, 2B), Hester (1-4, R, RBI, 2B), Valerius (1-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB), Caraker (1-4, 2 R), Cavitt (1-3, RBI, BB) and G. Funk (1-4, R) accounted for the Falcons' eleven hits against the Rangers.
