OBITUARY: Larry D. Rogers
Larry D. Rogers, age 74, of Shawneetown, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, in Harrisburg Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Larry was born near Junction on April 17, 1940, to the late Charles "Red" and Pauline (Greer) Kingston. Larry was married to the love of his life on May 5, 1961, Marilyn (Morse) Rogers who survives. Larry served his country in the Army. Larry had done many things in his life from being a farmer, managing a food company, but will be known most for he and his wife Marilyn operating Rudy's BBQ in Shawneetown. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and how he loved to travel. Larry loved to be around his family and friends and will be remembered as a good husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He will be truly missed in the Gallatin County area.
Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn (Morse) Rogers of Shawneetown; a son, Sam and Trish Rogers of Augusta, Ga.; and daughters, Sandra Riley of Shawneetown and Dana and Jim Richeson of Murphysboro; a brother, Mike and Dawn Kingston of Homer; sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Chuck Smith of Shawneetown; grandchildren, Lara and Aaron, Jamie, Joey, Sam, Dean, Mandy, Lauren, Wyatt and Russell; along with 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents, Sam and Grace Greer.
Visitation for Larry will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, his birthday, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Shawneetown. His funeral service will be at the funeral home 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, with the Rev. Larry Beam officiating. Interment will follow in the McGhee Cemetery near Junction. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Jim Richeson fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
